2 Dec, 2011 My favourite outdoor activity is fishing and I've been at it for over 50 years. I've been fortunate to fish in many wonderful places outside of my home state, Wisconsin. My absolute, favourite place to go is Vermilion Bay Lodge (VBL) in northwest Ontario, Canada. I love it here for several reasons. First off, the hospitality and customer service I've received from the lodge owners are consistently outstanding. Secondly, the fishing opportunities on Eagle Lake and nearby portage lakes are quite good. I've caught hordes of fish while a guest at VBL, including walleye, northern, smallmouth bass, lake trout, whitefish plus a few nice muskies. Lastly, the price for a stay at VBL is very reasonable for what I receive in return. The combination of hospitality, fishing opportunities and price is what brings me back to VBL every year. I've introduced several family members and friends to this lodge and they were very pleased as well... Joe Moskal

5 Dec, 2011 I like this place for a number of reasons. Firstly, it's one of the most affordable places on Eagle Lake, but it is still clean with all of the amenities needed to have a good time aside from fishing (I rarely spend anytime at a resort when I'm on a fishing vacation though...). Secondly, it's in a great location. There are great places to fish from right in front of the cabin, in VB, Portage Bay, and the entire West Arm is great to fish when it's windy. The very west end of the lake and Viking Reef are about 10 mi runs, but everywhere in between is a great area to fish. Lastly, Gord and his family are great people. Gord's kind of a quiet guy, but warm him up a little bit, and he'll talk to you all you want about fishing Eagle Lake, and he knows how to as well as anybody. In fact, a couple years ago my buddy burned out his outboard while staying at VBL with a few days left to our trip, and Gord let him use one of his boats free of charge for the remainder of the trip... the Bastables are real people that treat you like real people, not like a source of income. It's a great lake if a walleye and musky fishing combination is what you're looking for. Trophies of both species are definitely present. And VBL is a great place to stay while you're chasing big fish.

6 Dec, 2011 We have been going to Eagle Lake and Vermilion Bay Lodge for some 13 years now and is by far one of the best housekeeping camps I have stayed at. Fish all day and go out after dinner for a couple of hours wake up next day and the boat is cleaned gassed and ready to rock. Fishing is great and gets better every year. As for the cabins they can't be beat very clean and roomy. The boats are kept very clean and up to date with new motors. The owners Gord and Susanne Bastable are some of the nicest people you will meet. The Sunday night fish fry and get together is another plus as you will get a chance to relax and unwind and meet others in camp. So if your looking for a camp about 3 hours from the border of International Falls, MN with some really good fishing I would highly recommend Vermilion Bay Lodge!!!!

7 Dec, 2011 I have been taking my father to Vermilion Bay Lodge (VBL) for years now. I remember the first time we were searching for place in Canada to go fishing at. There were many choices and lots of websites to visit and ponder going to. Anytime you are going to travel a great distance and spend hard earned money you want the most bang for your buck. I inquired at several websites via email, and Gord at VBL was quick and courteous in reply. Good old customer service is what hooked us. We passed many other lodges and lakes on our way to Vermilion Bay Lodge, but none looked as well cared for or secluded as what we saw upon arrival there. The dock area is well protected from the winds and weather and this was important to me as I brought my own boat to fish in. We are always met at the dock and helped with the cleaning and preparation of our catch. The fishing was unbelievable. You can catch fish just in front of the cabins and lodge, or you can fish the many locations that Gord the owner will teach you about so you don't have to spend time trying to figure out where the best bite is. Another great thing about the VBL location is it is right next to the small town of Vermilion and you can quickly re-supply on anything you may need more of. (For me it is Cuban Cigars) VBL also has a slew of tackle that is VBL proven. We now keep going back to VBL not just cause the fishing and accommodations are tops, but because Gord's family has become a part of ours. These days it is hard to find a family run business that really cares about the customers' experience. I will continue to visit as long as my ole body will allow and I look forward to seeing the family every year.

2011 If you're looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water. What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere. 12/6/2011 If you like GREAT fishing, hospitality and affordabilty, Vermilion Bay Lodge is highly recommended. I have been making the trip to Vermilion Bay Lodge for the past 10 years and have never once been disappointed. If you like great walleye, northern, musky and trout fishing, this place should not be overlooked. The fishing has been excellent... no matter what time we went. Gordy and Susanne are wonderful hosts that will make you feel right at home. Check it out..............I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

If you have stayed at the rest....now try the best! There are other resorts trumpeting the great fishing on Eagle Lake. Gord and Susanne at Vermilion Bay Lodge will give you the straight scoop and treat you like nobody else on the lake. You simply can't beat the value offered by Vemilion Bay Lodge. I have never had a bad experience at this resort and have had many a tight lines while fishing walleye, pike, musky, lake trout, whitefish and the mighty perch. I also enjoy having the opportunity to fish many of the portage lakes that are available to VBL guests.
